New Gear: Shimano’s 2018 Ultegra R8000

Shimano’s new Ultegra R8000 is a straight out of the box, ready to run, drivetrain. Made with Shimano’s Rider Tuned philosophy, this set of mechanical gears, adapts to your riding style without saying a word!

Suited for you…

The Ultegra R8000 drivetrain features a wide range of gears, while stepping the technology notch up, with the added options of disc brakes or rim brakes. Then there’s redesigned dual control levers, and Hollow Tech II crank set, with its feathery nature.

Cable Shifting:

The dual control levers from Shimano, provide more adjustable settings for brakes and gears. This integrates with Shimano’s offer of two types of rear derailleurs, one for 11-25/11-30 and one for 11-28/11-34 cassette ratios. The Shadow RD Tech, that embeds into each of these derailleurs, is partially to thank, since it keeps the derailleurs compact enough to swap around.

Di2:

The Di2 model of the R8000 series has also been upgraded to suit the rider style even more, with its added customisation options. You can operate both front and rear derailleurs with one button, which is pretty cool. Shimano’s Auto-Trim feature centres the front derailleur around the chain perfectly, and automatically. Knocking chain-rub out of the game completely.

Brakes:

Shimano’s Ultegra R8000 brake callipers now come-out with increased stopping power, and a more aerodynamic design to optimize overall performance. On the hydraulic disc brake side, the BR-R8070 series, provides advanced stopping power, even in wet conditions.

Wheels:

The new tubeless, lightweight wheelsets, WH-R5700 Rim & WH-S770 Disc, compliment the overall Ultegra R8000 package. Plus, they’re 80-grams lighter than before!
