Garmin Forerunner 935 Review – Train Better!

The Garmin Forerunner 935 is a smart watch that knows who you are. Your way of training. Your everyday activities. It knows only the best, and promises the best in tracking, statistics, and objectives.

The Forerunner 935 is a triathlon specific device. Of-course, there’s many other preloaded workout types. I tested the watch from a cyclist’s perspective; that being said, I set the watch up for road and off-road rides. From the word go, the Forerunner exhibited intelligence and flexed its ability to adapt to a dedicated lifestyle of a cyclist.

Lightweight and Life-proof!

The most prominent feature on the Forerunner 935, is the built-in heart rate sensor. Situated at the back of the unit, the sensor tracks your heart rate down to the tee. On the display it gave me my heart rate from the last for hours. Just doing daily activities; the stats provided by the Forerunner were insightful. As I could see which of my activities stressed my heart the most. I was able to maintain a balanced heart rate, through knowing what my heart rate was and then making adjustments accordingly.

Garmin made sure that the Forerunner 935 wasn’t a strain to wear. Its 49-gram, feathery and flexible feel, didn’t restrict my hand movements during the day. Unlike other multisport watches that often feel as though you’re carrying around a bulky piece of tech. The secure mount to my wrist, meant that I could simply do life with it. For example; use it during my sleep, at the beach, or in the office. All without choking my wrist.

Key Features:
  • 49-grams of high performance technology.
  • Wi-Fi + Bluetooth
  • Up to 2 weeks’ battery life as a daily smartwatch.
  • 24 hrs battery life in GPS mode.
  • Delivers training statuses, and fitness level indicators.
  • Waterproof.
  • Tracks your sleeping pattern.
  • Connects to your phone via Garmin Connect App.

 Hit the Road!

On my first test of the Forerunner 935 on the bike, it’s simple ‘lock ‘n load’ nature was always in play. Seriously, it was fast and reliable. To activate my training tracking, I simply tapped the Start-Stop button on the top right-side of the unit. This then took me to the area where I selected my type of training. This being Mountain Biking.

After a few other clicks of buttons, I slammed the pedals, and the Forerunner 935 began its perceptive, metric tracking. My distance, elevation, ascent, and heart zones were among these trailed by the Garmin. By connecting to GPS the watch knew exactly where I was, even when I decided to explore some new trails.

The heart zones that the Forerunner keeps track of were particularly useful. If you train according to your heart, which I do, it’s easy to see what zone you’re in and when you need to up your game. So for me, I increased my heart rate on climbs to burn more calories, and then decreased it on downhills to recover a bit. By keeping up with my heart rate, the Forerunner was able to help me train better, by keeping me in the know. HR Sensors are a feature I think every multisport watch should have.

At the end of every ride, I used the Forerunner’s training status widget, to see my progress in fitness. It displayed a summary of all my workouts, calories burnt, as well as the effect of a specific workout’s effect on my body. I could see my aerobic fitness level, which in turn, guided me in fine-tuning my training program. With all these valuable statistics I was able to train like a pro, and thus further myself in fitness.

A Life Companion?

Other than your spouse (and maybe bike); Garmin’s Forerunner 935 is the ultimate partner in crime, so to speak. It integrates into your lifestyle, and keeps you up to speed with your health.

  • Step tracker: Set walking goals to stay active.
  • Temperature: Know what the weather is doing.
  • Daily Log: View calories burnt.

Verdict:

The Garmin Forerunner 935 proved itself to be an intelligent training tool for any cyclist. Everybody wants to improve their fitness. So why not get the multisport watch that allows you to do just that. From my experience with the Forerunner 935 and the stats it has provided, I’ve been able to challenge myself to push the limit of what I can do. Challenge entices growth in your fitness. And the Forerunner was the source of that enticement.

The Garmin Forerunner 935 is the ultimate in the Forerunner watch series. Its kitted out with the best spec money can buy on a multisport watch.
