2021 Stanford MTB Classic adopts guided-ride format

This year’s Stanford MTB Classic will take on the popular guided ride format when the one-day mountain bike event takes place at Stanford Valley Guest Farm, Western Cape, on February 27.

Overberg MTB Events used this format for last year’s De Hoop Vlei MTB Experience, which proved to be a great success.

Recent Covid-19 restrictions have resulted in many cycling events being either cancelled or postponed, which caused the decision to change Stanford MTB Classic’s format.

“Fortunately, we have the option to proceed with outdoor gatherings in accordance with SAPS’s low-risk approval in certain areas,” said events director Anneke Jacobs.

“Therefore, Overberg MTB Events can continue such outdoor gatherings after receiving permission by the authorities.”

She added that the Stanford MTB Classic would not present an officially sanctioned Cycling SA event as planned.

“To still be able to allow riders to enjoy and ride world-class and exclusive MTB routes, we are changing the format to a guided ride that will be limited to 100 entries.”

Organisers are consolidating two distance options for this year’s Stanford MTB Classic and reducing the entry fees accordingly.

Riders will still be riding all the single tracks and recently established trails.

Due to curfew-hour limitations and the heat and time of year, it was decided to omit the 85km for 2021.

Riders who have already entered for the 85km will have the option to change their entry to the 55km or rollover to 2022.

Amended distance options and fees: 55km (R550) and 25km (R350).

All entries include a delicious hamburger at Stanford Valley Guest Farm.

This different approach in hosting events, to accommodate a small number of groups, has been a welcoming relief and resulted in unforgettable journeys to many mountain bikers.

“In these uncertain and restricted times, riders are yearning to get out with their friends and families, and explore pristine destination getaways, without the fear of being exposed in a confined environment,” said Jacobs.

For this reason, organisers will be continuing the format throughout all their events scheduled for the year to eliminate future disappointment in races being cancelled.

This way, they allow the public to ride exclusive trails and enjoy the company of their favourite MTB crowd within the prescribed limitations and guidelines.

Overberg MTB Events wishes all its riders and supporters the best for 2021.

“Although our nation is faced with difficult times and many challenges, we’re fortunate to still be able to enjoy outdoor activities and be out there on our mountain bikes,” said Jacobs.
